I write on the arts and the artists that put Chicago and her people on stage. This means people of color and other communities that are easily erased when our work isn’t seen or heard. Writing is a means of expanding what is recorded history. Writing solidifies that we were here and how being here felt. By writing, the ephemeral is made concrete and takes up permanent space. My motivation comes from the fact that if I don’t write from my perspective, I can’t guarantee someone else will.
