BIYA BIYA x Cinemanita: Nowruz Zine Workshop & Film Night

  • Chicago Art Department 1926 North Halsted Street Chicago, IL, 60614 United States (map)

CINEMANITA is back with BIYA BIYA bringing you a tender Nowruz collaboration!

Join us for a pre-show Nowruz zine session: think a mix of collage, drawing, and manifesting more light in the face of darkness led by 🌱🌸 dramaturg, theater journalist, and oral historian Yasmin Zacaria Mikhaiel 🥹 at 6:30 pm.

Then, we'll watch Iranian film director, screenwriter, poet, photographer, and film producer Abbas Kiarostami's short films and Where Is the Friend's House? (1987).

This Iranian film is about a young village boy, full of honor, who is determined to return his classmate's notebook in a neighboring village otherwise his friend will be expelled from school.

This is a child's-eye journey through rural Northwest Iran, about responsibility, morality, and childhood bonds, and is the first film of Kiarostami's the Koker Trilogy.

We will start the night off with several of Kiarostami's short films, too. 🥹💓

We are donating all tickets and donations to support one Iranian student's tuition cost at university.
